Program

Agile Portugal 2012 has a rich and flexible two-days program, with inspiring keynotes from our special invited speakers, Richard P. Gabriel and Joseph W. Yoder, talks from invited experts David West, Peter Sommerlad, Teresa Carreiro, Catarina Reis, Ricardo Martinho, José António Silva, Isabel Ferreira, César Duarte, André Reina, André Santos, José Mota, João Cerdeira, with long or speed-talks, and an open space to allow you to organize your own sessions, on your favorite topics, on your will.

As usual, the social program will provide you several opportunities to mingle with the community and our invited speakers and experts, during and after the conference. In particular this year, we will start with an informal Agile Walk session on Friday’s morning, a welcome reception on Friday’s evening, a conference dinner on Saturday, followed by a post-conference party, with fireworks, sardines, “caldo-verde”, good food, music, and more, all of this together with all the citizens of Porto, by the occasion of São João party. :)

The schedule is now final, already accommodating the selected speed-talks.

Open Space

In addition to the scheduled sessions, Open Space sessions will take place throughout all the conference, providing a live and flexible place to share questions, talk to the experts, demonstrate software and techniques, learn with games, and experiment with agile practices and ideas. Its schedule will be defined during the conference, by you and the other participants, and will be continuously evolved as new topics emerge during the event. Sessions are not meant to be formal, like the ones on the program — anyone can convene a session at the Open Space based on a passion and a commitment to make the session happen. Walk away with valuable new insights into topics that are relevant to you today.

Two Open Space sessions have been pre-announced by participants:

  • Kake Coding Dojo — A chance to practice your coding skills and improve your knowledge of TDD, pair-programming and continuous integration.
  • Scrum LEGO Game — Using LEGO bricks to simulate Scrum and understand its mechanics.

Results

We had 14 Open Space sessions announced for Friday, and 3 announced for Saturday. Not many sessions took notes, but you can find the ones that did below:

Retrospectives

Teams that strive to improve need to accurately find and fix on-going problems. Agile retrospectives help teams to assess what went right and what went wrong on any project; iteratively and incrementally. The retrospective by the end of the first day of Agile Portugal will help us inspect what worked well and what needs to be improved, thus assisting us to adapt to improve the ongoing conference.

Panel

Join us in a Fishbowl Panel, where conference speakers and participants have a spirited debate about “Transitioning to Agile? Tips, Tricks, Traps, and Pitfalls“, with Richard P.Gabriel, Joseph W.Yoder, and more.
